The La Lakers retired Shaquille O'Neal's extra-extra-large No. 34 jersey in the center of their playoff-altering sport with the Dallas Mavericks Tuesday night. There were some turns and interesting twists on the way, as imaginable. La ' game was going well for the first half, even when Dwight Howard may've been doing his better to pay homage to O'Neal throughout the game. It all started out with Shaq's family rocking out onto the floor and a terrific, entertaining movie homage. Which was followed with a recorded video speech from Kobe Bryant, congratulating his former teammate for his deserved recognition. The biggest takeaway from the very first few minutes of everything was that Shaq was sporting a damn shiny suit. Phil Jackson arrived next, and that's when things started to get difficult. The fans weren't exactly supportive of their current head coach. Eventually Jackson gave his speecha'the major takeaway being that Shaq was a strange man but Phil liked being around him. After halftime, Craig Sager noted that the Lakers noticed the "We want Phil" chants back the locker room. The response was mainly a shoulder shrug and a realization they've got a crucial basketball game to play. Jeanie Buss came forward next, while they finally unveiled the jacket alongside all the other Laker tales. Shaq finally took the microphone, thanking everyone from Phil Jackson and Jim Buss to Jack Nicholson and Adam Sandler. He did, nevertheless, leave some one out, leaving Twitter ablaze. In the end, Shaq's decision to exclude every one of his former teammates seemed more a problem of expediency (although he did provide a because of about a dozen superstars), and he tweeted out a movie thanking his teammates following the fact. Ultimately, it had been an ideal homage to Wilt Chamberneezy. It was at times silly, serious, fully unexpected, awkward and weirda'sometimes all of the above. Congratulations to the greatest, most adorable person actually to hide Chris Dudley to the bottom. I'm sure even Duds was smiling somewhat Tuesday evening.
