UPDATED: 06:56 EST, 28 April 2013 Sir Alex Ferguson says that seasoned midfielder Paul Scholes will remain on at Manchester United next year. Scholes can change 39 in November and could yet retire from the game, but the Scot says the former England international still has a part to play in either case. After Robin van Persie catapulted United to a victory over Aston Villa on Monday night, Scholes didn't join his team-mates on the message to celebrate the club's 20th group prize. Veteran: Paul Scholes (right) will stay at Manchester United next time Ferguson was asked why the person who graduated from the childhood school with the likes of David Beckham and Ryan Giggs did not participate in with the celebrations. 'We'll need to wait and see with Scholes,' Ferguson informed the club's official web site. 'He is got an injury that is bothering him a whole lot. I really do not think he got onto the message but he is not that sort. He was probably home by enough time the game ended! 'It does not matter as he'll be here anyway - whether as a player or coach. He'll be here anyway.' Scholes retired from his playing career in May 2011 but left his post as coach of the reserves to return to the United fold the following January. And Ferguson is convinced Scholes has much to supply round the club even when he chooses to call it a day come july 1st. He added: 'I believe there will come a time when he's to give up anyway, whether it is next year or this year. He is not given his mind up about this. He has got a lot to provide us and we try this now, it is an extremely important element of our membership to get players who have made a great contribution.' Meanwhile, Ferguson's associate Mike Phelan thinks the 71-year-old's need to win is a major element in his achievement. He told BBC Radio Five Live's Sportsweek programme: 'He is maintained the want to win, you can never simply take that far from him and what he's done over a period of time is he is mellowed. 'He is passed on certain tasks to individual people, he lets you work, he lets you get on with the task, he needs integrity and trust from you and I believe he gets that.' He added: 'His greatest strength is his leadership. Instrumental: Sir Alex Ferguson recognized the club's 20th category title on Monday evening 'He is put things set up over many many years and he is had that want to gain. 'And when you've got somebody who's pushing and pushing and pushing it brings along a large amount of people and if you're in that same mindset and you've got the same work ethic that he's got, then it can only just be considered a gain to every one. 'He is definitely produced some excellent clubs, some excellent players and I do believe it's been backed up by good quality staff. 'He is matured such as for instance a good bottle of burgandy or merlot wine. He is got better and better with age and he's still going strong.' Former England employer Steve McClaren changed Brian Kidd as Ferguson's assistant in 1999 and was on the staff at United once they won the treble. He stayed at Old Trafford until 2001, winning two more group games before moving into management by himself with Middlesbrough. Gifted: Scholes has been at the heart of United's midfield for several years He's only sampled champion wonder once since, winning the Eredivisie with FC Twente, but he's in without doubt concerning the purpose United keep piling up the titles. 'It is exclusively down seriously to the manager,' he explained. 'What he is produced at Manchester United, the type of culture and environment. It is the successful thinking that he has.'
