The victim, thought to be in his 40s, was crossing Hill Top, Black Lake West Bromwich, when he was run down at 9.45pm on Friday.
Sergeant Gavin Green, from the regional collision investigation unit, said: "To assist, I would ask that anyone who was in the area at the time the man was struck by the car to call us immediately.
