Nemanja Vidic imposes silence on Manchester City pals ahead of derby - Metro

Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic will give fellow Serbs Aleksandar Kolarov and Matija Nastasic the silent treatment ahead of Monday's derby with City.

The 31-year-old United captain is close friends with the pair but their allegiance to Manchester City's cause makes it impossible for idle chit-chat, no matter how well they all get on.

'I like to go there and do it. On game day I think about the game, I don't waste energy before the game starts, otherwise you end up tired.'

Fifteen points clear at the top of the Premier League with seven games left, United are in the position of knowing even a draw at Old Trafford would effectively clinch a record 20th title.

Sir Alex Ferguson has a big call to make in defence with Vidic, Rio Ferdinand and Jonny Evans all pushing for a starting place.

However, it would seem Vidic is in pole position for a place given recent statistics showed he has the highest win percentage, nearly 72 per cent, of any United player who has made more than 60 appearances.

'You can look at certain things and see where you can improve,' he added. 'Even the passing rate, you can see the percentage you have got right.

'But it is not just the stats, it is the clips as well. I love to watch them. Not every player looks but you have the chance to – and I do.'
