Manchester City defender Micah Richards admits it has been doubly frustrating to take a seat on the sidelines and observe Manchester United march towards concept glory. Richards returned to action in City's laboured success over battling Wigan in midweek after six months on the sidelines with a leg injury that required surgery. Throughout his arduous road to recovery he's not merely seen the excellent Pablo Zabaleta firmly establish himself as first-choice right-back, but City's grip on the Barclays Premier League crown has all but been relinquished. The 24-year-old, who survived 83 minutes against the Latics, said: "It has certainly been annoying, particularly when you see United the top of group. It was maybe retained by "after last season I thought we would have kicked on and maybe been a bit better,. "We haven't done that but I think next period we will regroup and hopefully we will get it back." Richards took place hurt in a victory over Swansea last October, which alone was only the fourth game of a comeback from an ankle issue. It's been the most testing time for a person who has been beset by niggling problems previously but he allows he should now bide his time behind Zabaleta. The City youth product said: "Five-and-a-half, six months - it's very irritating to be out way too long. "When I came back I was playing really well. "Now Zaba has been type this year. It is going to be difficult to get back in but you understand what football is like, about a minute you're in and the following you're out. "When I'm in I'm going to have to take my chance." Richards, after time for teaching three months before, arrived to the medial side as Zabaleta was rested after the exertions of last week's derby defeat of United and Sunday's FA Cup semi-final make an impression on Chelsea. But by having an essential day at Tottenham coming up this weekend, Richards expects Zabaleta to be restored as City more look to cement second position. He said: "I think Zaba is going to be in following the way he has been playing but if I'm called upon I'll give 100 %. "Last time after injury I very nearly tried to rush back. This time around I do not want to run back. "I want to take it steady and attempt to perform a work when I am asked. "For me it's just getting straight back, getting some minutes under my belt, just to perform 80 minutes was enough for me for today. "I can just hold training, working hard, hoping to get fitter and stronger. "Hopefully I'll acquire some more games ahead of the end of the season." PA
