Update on the amount WWE Management Thinks with El Generico.

Indie beloved El Generico (now known as Sami Zayn) signed with WWE at the start of the year and has now since been honing their craft on developmental show NXT, presumably while management arises with ideas for their main-roster debut.

In a good move that disappointed quite a few, Zayn lost his hallmark mask. He also dropped your "El Generico" moniker and started going by way of version of his real name.

In that week's (subscribers-ony) Wrestling Viewer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer notes that while management likes this interview style (a huge plus inside the promo-obsessed world of WWE), they've already also informed the 28-year-old to be able to tone down his high-flying, high-risk in-ring type considerably.

Sami Zayn (El Generico) has become told to slow down and not just do so many excessive spots. The feeling is he's truly great, very intelligent, good promos (which nobody knew about) and they also like the spots they does but not to take action many in a match. Plus, there is fear that though he's not showing the signs from it today since he's always young, that all the lumps and crazy moves they did already could catch up to him if he doesn't shade it down...

Of training course, it may be feasible for many long-time fans with the grappler to roll their eyes at this report and accuse the firm of attempting to jettison stuff made Zayn a star inside places like ROH together with Dragon Gate USA.

And they do make a fair point: We've seen several promising careers ended early due to careless and risky in-ring varieties.

As I discussed the government financial aid February, injuries stemming from yrs of reckless bumps forced Mick Foley into early retirement merely 47 years old. Compare him with companies Sting and Fit Finlay, both of whom wrestled far safer styles and tend to be both still going strong well within their 50s.

However, hopefully WWE does indeed consider giving Zayn back the mask when they gets called up. Because, more so than high spots or crazy blobs, it really is a crucial the main act.
