Improvement in support is critical, states Manchester United's Smalling - Goal.com India

19-Mar-2013 2:45:00 AM The 23-year-old defender thinks the return to full strength for the Red Devils' support has been key to their form while they increased the space at the top of the table to 15 points In 2013, the Red Devils' support has secured eight clean sheets in 16 games and conceded 12 goals, rather than their form before the change of the season, where in 28 games they kept just four clean sheets and conceded 40 goals, while David De Gea has not conceded in 537 minutes of Premier League activity. Smalling, who has had his starts for the first-team diminished by injury, thinks the return of almost all their defensive workers has played a major part in the club's tasks and type, with the 1-0 victory over Reading letting them start a 15 point difference at the top of the table. "That is joined in with all our defenders coming back now," Smalling told the club's official site. "It is simply Phil [Jones] who's struggling but I do believe he'll be right back soon and our energy is shown by the players that people have available. "It was not quite a game [against Reading]. It got very ugly in the second half and I believe we were just happy to have the three items. That was what we needed and a clean sheet was got by us as well so we are pleased with that. "We knew what we'd to complete before City played, but [City losing 2-0 at Everton] gave us a supplementary bonus. We would want to have won a few more targets but we stayed strong and got the 1-0 win".
